Overview
Design
The Southern Cross:
Designed in 1976 by Thomas Gilmer, the Southern Cross epitomizes a traditional, double-ended cruising sailboat.
Its underbody features a fine entry, firm midship section, and fine run aft.
The hull topside includes a spoon bow, moderately low freeboard, and a rockered sheer.
Propulsion options include a masthead sloop rig or a 24 hp diesel inboard auxiliary engine.
The deck layout comprises a trunk cabin and aft cockpit for tiller steering.
This design is considered typical for alongshore and offshore cruising in moderate weather conditions, requiring proper preparation, adequate skills, and prudent seamanship.
Equipped with seawater intake and an AC water pump.
